At AxisCare, we build software for home care agencies. Our agencies serve clients, typically senior citizens who would prefer to remain in their homes, but need some extra assistance around the house. A home care agency hires caregivers, matches them with compatible clients, then schedules visits between the clients and caregivers where the caregiver assists the client with the kinds of tasks that become more difficult as you age – grocery shopping, cleaning, etc.

When most people say Agile these days, they mean Scrum. It's by far the dominant Agile methodology, but I've found it often devolves into mindless ceremonies, two-week death marches, and ticking boxes instead of building innovative products. Success is rarely defined before work begins, and engineering rigor is barely a consideration. Why so much of the software development world has accepted this as the norm is beyond me, but thankfully it's not the only way to be "Agile".
